Yellowstone holds on for 3-2 win against Helena

The Helena Bighorns tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Yellowstone Quake would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Oli Jansson put Yellowstone up 3-1 in the third period, but Helena pulled to within one on Dillon Mershon's tally 4:26 into the third period.

Orri Haman had two goals to lead the Quake to victory. Haman found the back of the net on the power play 2:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Yellowstone and again while on the power play 1:05 into the third to make the score 2-1 Yellowstone.

Yellowstone could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Other players who recorded assists for Yellowstone were George Splichal and Brandon Busse, who contributed one a piece and Michael Berens and Sam Basich, who each chipped in two.

The Bighorns were held below their usual level of production. Helena averages 6.5 goals per game. The Bighorns' offense rang up 39 shots on the Quake's net. Helena got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. The Bighorns found themselves short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

Brandon Rumble also scored for Helena. In addition, Helena received assists from Parker Olson, Devin Smith, Ben Henne, and Chris Andre, who contributed one a piece.

Jared Schletty rejected 37 shots on goal for Yellowstone. Helena's Jett Salinas stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Bighorns registered two goals on eight power play opportunities.
