Salinas, Helena blank Missoula, 5-0

Jett Salinas was superb between the pipes for the Helena Bighorns, as he did not allow a goal in a 5-0 victory over the Missoula Maulers.

Cody Blom had two goals and one assist to lead Helena. Blom scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:33 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Helena. A roughing penalty on Connor McNally had put the Bighorns on the power play. Parker Olson provided the assist. Blom's next tally on the power play made the score 3-0 Helena with 6:48 left in the first period. Helena earned a power play opportunity when Christian Manning was put in the box for cross checking. Brandon Rumble assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:34 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Bighorns forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 12 minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game Helena had been spending in the box. The Bighorns stifled Missoula's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Helena forced the Maulers goalie Cody Janzen to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Others who scored for Helena included Kyle Baker, who had one and Christian Axelson, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Helena were Jacob Wolter, who had one.

Missoula was held below its usual level of production. The Maulers put an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game. Missoula struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Bighorns to score two power play goals on three chances.

Jett Salinas made 29 saves for Helena on 29 shots. The Bighorns ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Chris Andre was ejected from the game. The Maulers' Janzen stopped 34 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Missoula totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-10 on the power play. For the Maulers, Matt Chamberlain was ejected from the game.
