Gillette uses shootout to best Billings, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Trent Dillinger scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Gillette Wild picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (2-1 SO) win over the Billings Bulls.

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Billings got a shootout goal from Stephen Thompson. Gillette also got a shootout goal from Tyler Johnson.

Tyler Cavan had two goals to lead the Wild to victory. Cavan found the back of the net 10:01 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Gillette and again while 13:27 into the second to make the score 3-1 Gillette.

Gillette pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 37 penalty minutes.

The Wild's offense rang up 32 shots on the Bulls' net.

Gillette also got points from Alex King, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Gillette received assists from Brandon Castleberry, who had one and Taylor Motsinger, who had two.

Billings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. The defensemen of the Bulls were also effective in Gillette's zone, and came away with two goals.

Billings was helped by Nik Nasby, who finished with one goal and one assist. Nasby scored 3:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Billings. Alex Herman assisted on the tally. Billings additionally got points from Thompson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Billings also got a goal from Colter Endy as well. Other players who recorded assists for Billings were Dexter Nealy and Connor Hayden, who contributed one a piece.

Sean Kelley rejected 21 shots on goal for the Wild. Nic Wackerly recorded 28 saves for the Bulls. Billings totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play.
