Yellowstone downs Gillette in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Jimmy Tich gave the Yellowstone Quake a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Gillette Wild when he scored 24 seconds into the extra period.

Yellowstone nearly gave up a three-score lead. The Quake made it 4-1 on a goal by Sam Basich at 4:38 in the second period. Gillette got to within 4-3 on a goal by Boris Knyazev at 5:31 in the third period.

Yellowstone forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the Quake had been spending in the box. Yellowstone's offense rang up 45 shots on the Wild's net.

Yellowstone additionally got points from Basich, who also registered one goal and one assist. Oli Jansson also scored for Yellowstone. Other players who recorded assists for Yellowstone were Michael Berens, who had two, George Splichal, who had three, and Anthony Leong, Tanner Fricke, Andrew Lansing, and Bryan Standly, who each chipped in one.

The Gillette penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Wild surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Gillette's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Yellowstone power plays. The Wild kept the Quake's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jared Schletty made 36 saves on 40 shots.

Gillette was helped by Taylor Motsinger, who grabbed three goals. More assists for Gillette came via Tyler Cavan, who had three and Ronnie Wilshusen, Tyson Loundagin, Steve Patafio, Matt Rose, and Tyler Johnson, who contributed one a piece.

Brandon Kruckenberg rejected 40 shots on goal for the Wild. Gillette registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
