Viktor Steenson had two goals and one assist to lead the Missoula Maulers to a 5-1 victory over the Gillette Wild. Steenson scored at 1:44 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Missoula and again while on the power play 15:45 into the third to make the score 5-1 Missoula.Missoula put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Gillette to score on any of its three power plays. The Wild were unable to stop the Maulers from sending pucks towards the net, and Missoula eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Missoula also got points from Zach Paisley, who also had one goal and one assist, Paigg Maul, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Joey Sundgren, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. In addition, Missoula received assists from Brett Mathews, who had one. Gillette was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Wild surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Gillette did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Wild put an average of 4.7 pucks into the net per game. Gillette's offense rang up 33 shots on the Maulers' net. The Wild were led by Boris Knyazev, who scored the team's only goal. Knyazev scored 15:37 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Missoula. Ronnie Wilshusen provided the assist. Mckinlee Baum rejected 32 shots on goal for Missoula. The Maulers totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. Gillette's Nick Vittori stopped 32 shots out of the 37 that he faced.
