Missoula falls to Yellowstone after surprising comebackGlacier Ice Rink Sat, Jan 05, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Undaunted by a three-goal deficit, the Yellowstone Quake battled back to claim a 7-5 victory over the Missoula Maulers. Yellowstone let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a three hole to pick up the win. The Quake took a 5-4 advantage on a goal by Orri Haman at 17:17 in the second period. Yellowstone went down 4-1 after Missoula's Anders Nord put the puck home at 5:53 in the second period. After knotting things up at 5-5 on a goal by Jordan Wheatley at 1:56 in the third, the Quake got the game-winner from TJ Lozier at 2:10 in the third period. Brandon Busse had a great game for Yellowstone, netting two goals. Busse's tallies came at 2:50 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Missoula and short handed 9:53 into the third to make the score 7-5 Yellowstone. The Quake put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Maulers to score on any of their four power plays. Yellowstone kept Missoula's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cody Janzen made 27 saves on 34 shots. The Quake outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Yellowstone averages 4.5 goals per contest. Yellowstone also got points from Michael Berens, who also racked up one goal and one assist, George Splichal, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Haman, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Sam Basich, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Yellowstone received assists from Mitchell Fehd and Josh Neumann, who each chipped in one and Jimmy Tich and Chris Andre, who contributed two a piece. The Maulers forced the Quake's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, racking up 41 shots and forcing 36 saves. Jared Schletty made 28 stops and Trevor Zangs made eight. Missoula additionally got points from Joey Sundgren, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Missoula also got a goal from Paigg Maul as well. Other players who recorded assists for Missoula were Viktor Steenson, who had two and Tyler Zandhuisen, Dylan Chase, Brett Mathews, Michael Cummings, and Brock Brothers, who each chipped in one. Yellowstone incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Missoula incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
