Great Falls boosted by Powell's play in net, beats Missoula 2-1

Erik Powell stood on his head and made 46 saves to lead the Great Falls Americans to a 2-1 victory over the Missoula Maulers.

Great Falls was led by Matt Douglas, who registered one goal. Douglas scored 1:26 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Great Falls. Doug Keller picked up the assist.

Craig Bufford also scored for Great Falls. In addition, Great Falls received assists from Daniil Kulikov and Jordan Jernigan, who each chipped in one.

Missoula excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Maulers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Missoula puts an average of 4.9 pucks into the net per game. The Maulers forced the Americans goalie Powell to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.

Missoula was led by Joey Sundgren, who scored the team's only goal. Sundgren scored on the power play 16:22 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A high sticking penalty on Nate Bastian had put the Maulers on the power play. Brett Mathews provided the assist.

Great Falls ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Mckinlee Baum made 20 saves for Missoula on 22 shots. The Maulers totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
