Huge game by Axelson boosts Helena over Billings, 6-0Helena Ice Arena Fri, Dec 21, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Helena Bighorns' Christian Axelson had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing three assists in his team's 6-0 win over the Billings Bulls. Axelson beat Nic Wackerly with a shot 4:13 into the first period on the power play to make the score 1-0 Helena. Helena had taken the advantage when Billings' Nik Nasby got sent off for slashing. Kyle Baker provided the assist. Axelson dished an assist on Baker's goal that made the score 2-0 Helena at 10:00 into the first period. He then added assists on Ben Henne's goal at 2:32 into the third and on Baker's goal at 10:23 into the third.The Bighorns stifled the Bulls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Helena kept Billings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Wackerly made 36 saves on 42 shots. The Bighorns could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 22 minutes in penalties during the game. Helena additionally got points from Theo Campe, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Baker, who also registered two goals and one assist, Corbin Belling, who also had one goal and one assist, and Henne, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. In addition, Helena received assists from Parker Olson, Devin Smith, Logan Hawgood, and John Petersson, who contributed one a piece. The Bulls forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 14 minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Billings had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Bulls could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Billings averages 3.0 goals per game. Jett Salinas recorded 20 saves for Helena. The Bighorns registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. The Bulls registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
