Hawgood leads Helena, offense over Missoula, 5-2

The Helena Bighorns capitalized on the deft passing of Logan Hawgood, who garnered four assists to take down the Missoula Maulers, 5-2.

Helena's penalty kill excelled, as the Bighorns gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Helena was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Bighorns had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. Helena's offense operated below it season average. The Bighorns average 7.7 goals per game. Helena forced Missoula goalie Cody Janzen to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Helena also got points from Theo Campe, who also had one goal and one assist, Christian Axelson, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Kyle Baker, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Ben Henne, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Damon Hanson also scored for Helena. More assists for Helena came via Brandon Rumble and Jacob Wolter, who contributed one a piece.

The Maulers could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Missoula puts an average of 4.9 pucks into the net per game.

The Maulers were helped by Zach Paisley, who finished with one goal. Paisley scored 15:05 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Helena. Dustin Pierce picked up the assist. Missoula also got a goal from Tyler Zandhuisen as well. In addition, Missoula received assists from Anders Nord and Brett Mathews, who each chipped in one.

Jett Salinas made 28 saves for the Bighorns on 30 shots. Helena registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Janzen recorded 28 saves for Missoula. The Maulers ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors.
