Helena outlasts Missoula, 4-3Helena Ice Arena Thu, Dec 06, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Helena Bighorns gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Missoula Maulers. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Dylan Webster's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Helena was sparked by Webster, who finished with one goal. Webster scored on the power play 10:40 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Helena. An interference penalty on Paigg Maul had put the Bighorns on the power play. Devin Smith provided the assist. Helena could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Bighorns average 7.6 goals per game. Missoula was unable to stop Helena from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bighorns eventually piled up 53 shots on goal. Helena could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game. Helena additionally got points from Ben Henne, who also registered one goal and one assist. Christian Axelson also scored for Helena. More assists for Helena came via Logan Hawgood, who had two and Theo Campe and Brandon Rumble, who each chipped in one. The Maulers were often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 63 minutes in penalty time. Missoula had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Maulers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Missoula puts an average of 5.2 pucks into the net per game. The Maulers' offense rang up 47 shots on the Bighorns' net. Missoula was helped by Michael Cummings, who tallied one goal. Cummings scored on the power play 19:14 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Maulers earned a power play opportunity when Campe was put in the box for interference. Maul assisted on the tally. Missoula also got a goal from Dylan Chase as well. In addition, Missoula received assists from Tyler Zandhuisen and Cody Ogrin, who contributed one a piece. Helena's Jett Salinas stopped 44 shots out of the 47 that he faced. The Bighorns registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Mckinlee Baum made 49 saves for Missoula on 53 shots. The Maulers registered two goals on eight power play opportunities.
