Fazio lifts Helena over Missoula, 7-2

The Missoula Maulers had trouble finding ways to stop the Helena Bighorns, which beat Maulers, 7-2.

Danny Fazio was all over the ice for Helena, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Fazio's tallies came at 4:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Helena and on the power play 10:59 into the first to make the score 2-0 Helena.

The Bighorns stifled Missoula's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Maulers were unable to stop Helena from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bighorns eventually piled up 58 shots on goal. The defensemen of Helena were also effective in Missoula's zone, and came away with two goals.

Helena additionally got points from Christian Axelson, who also registered one goal and three assists, Kyle Baker, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Ben Henne, who also had one goal and four assists to lead the team in points. Brandon Rumble also scored for Helena. In addition, Helena received assists from John Petersson, who had two and Devin Smith, Logan Hawgood, and Jett Salinas, who contributed one a piece.

The Maulers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Missoula averages 5.3 goals per game. The Maulers forced the Bighorns goalie Salinas to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Missoula's penalty kill unit could not stop Helena's power play, which converted on three of five opportunities.

The Maulers were helped by Viktor Steenson, who tallied one goal. Steenson scored 8:16 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Helena. Zach Paisley picked up the assist. Missoula also got a goal from Tyler Zandhuisen as well. Other players who recorded assists for Missoula were Joey Sundgren and Brett Mathews, who each chipped in one.

The Bighorns' Salinas stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Helena incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Mckinlee Baum rejected 51 shots on goal for Missoula. The Maulers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
