Yellowstone uses shootout to best Great Falls, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

George Splichal scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Yellowstone Quake picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (1-0 SO) win over the Great Falls Americans.

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams.

Yellowstone overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Quake fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Great Falls' Daniil Kulikov at 13:15 in the second period. Yellowstone tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Oli Jansson at 14:06 in the third period.

The Quake were paced by TJ Lozier, who racked up one goal. Lozier scored 4:03 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Great Falls. Michael Berens provided the assist.

Yellowstone avoided man-down situations well, tallying one major for five minutes in penalty time. The Quake wound up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game.

In addition, Yellowstone received assists from Tanner Fricke, Brandon Busse, and Chris Andre, who contributed one a piece.

Other players who recorded assists for Great Falls were Craig Bufford and Jakub Cmolik, who each chipped in two.

Yellowstone's JT Blum stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Quake registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Erik Powell rejected 26 shots on goal for the Americans. Great Falls totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and had no power play opportunities.
