Helena completes comeback, beats Yellowstone, 5-3

The Yellowstone Quake could not hold down the Helena Bighorns, and Bighorns erased a three-goal deficit en route to a 5-3 win.

Helena never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Bighorns fell behind 3-0 after a goal by Yellowstone's Sam Basich at 16:03 in the second period. Helena knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Jacob Wolter at 9:56 in the third period. The Bighorns scored the game winner at 11:24 in the third period on a goal by Wolter.

Helena forced the Quake's netminders to work between the pipes, finishing with 38 shots and forcing 33 saves. JT Blum made 22 stops and Trevor Zangs made 11. The Bighorns could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Helena puts an average of 8.6 pucks into the net per game.

Helena also got points from Theo Campe, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ben Henne also scored for Helena. More assists for Helena came via Logan Hawgood, who had two, Damon Hanson, who had three, and Brandon Rumble, Danny Fazio, Christian Axelson, and John Petersson, who contributed one a piece.

Yellowstone's offense rang up 38 shots on the Bighorns' net.

The Quake were led by Bryan Standly, who racked up one goal and one assist. Standly scored on the power play 17:21 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Yellowstone. A hooking penalty on Dylan Webster had put Yellowstone on the power play. Brandon Busse provided the assist. Yellowstone also got a goal from Sam Gottfredsen as well. Other players who recorded assists for Yellowstone were George Splichal, who had one and Jimmy Tich, who had two.

Helena's Alek Lazarski stopped 35 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Bighorns totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. For Helena, Webster was ejected from the game. The Quake totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Yellowstone ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Busse was ejected from the game.
