Huge game by Cavan boosts Gillette over Great Falls, 6-3

Tyler Cavan had two goals and two assists to lead the Gillette Wild to a 6-3 victory over the Great Falls Americans.

Cavan found the back of the net 15:02 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and again while 14:54 into the third to make the score 5-3 Gillette.

Gillette stifled Great Falls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Wild kept the Americans' goalie busy throughout the game, and Erik Powell made 41 saves on 47 shots. Gillette could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. The Wild got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Gillette additionally got points from Alex King, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Gillette also got a goal from Steve Patafio as well. In addition, Gillette received assists from Taylor Motsinger, who had three and Trent Dillinger, Ronnie Wilshusen, Andrew Lillard, and Bobby Solari, who each chipped in one.

Great Falls forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 12 minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game the Americans had been spending in the box.

Great Falls was led by Daniil Kulikov, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Kulikov scored the first of his two goals at 3:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Great Falls. Kulikov's next tally made the score 2-1 Great Falls with 7:14 left in the second period. Jakub Cmolik picked up the assist. Great Falls also got points from Cmolik, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Great Falls were Connor Mize, who had one.

Nick Vittori recorded 26 saves for Gillette. The Wild registered two goals on nine power play opportunities. The Americans registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
