Helena uses fast start to beat Yellowstone, 10-0

A five-goal first period deficit cost the Yellowstone Quake, which could not recover and fell to the Helena Bighorns, 10-0.

Helena was boosted by Alek Lazarski, who turned in a shutout with 25 saves. The solid play of Lazarski will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.75.

The Bighorns were paced by Christian Axelson, who racked up one goal and one assist. Axelson scored 3:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Helena. Sean Stahlnecker picked up the assist.

Helena made Yellowstone's netminders to work between the pipes, getting 44 shots and forcing 34 saves. JT Blum made 23 stops and Trevor Zangs made 11. The Bighorns' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Yellowstone power plays. The defensemen of Helena were also effective in the Quake's zone, and came away with three goals.

Helena additionally got points from Brandon Rumble, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Damon Hanson, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Parker Olson, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, Devin Smith, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Corbin Belling, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Ben Henne, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and John Petersson, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Helena also got a goal from Danny Fazio as well. Other players who recorded assists for Helena were Logan Hawgood, who had one and Dylan Webster, who had five.

Yellowstone could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Quake put an average of 4.9 pucks into the net per game.

The Bighorns incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Yellowstone incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
