Missoula penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of Great Falls

Great Falls failed to take advantage of its power play opportunities and Missoula shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

Missoula was led by Jordan Wheatley, who racked up one goal. Wheatley scored on the power play 12:19 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Missoula. Missoula earned a power play opportunity when Lucas Lomax was put in the box for roughing. Viktor Steenson picked up the assist.

Missoula forced Great Falls goalie Evan Hauser to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.

Missoula also got points from Donovan Mattfeldt, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Brett Mathews, who also tallied two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Joey Sundgren also scored for Missoula. In addition, Missoula received assists from Gabe Whiteman-Jones, Dustin Pierce, Anders Nord, Michael Cummings, and Matt Chamberlain, who each chipped in one.

Great Falls was helped by Craig Bufford, who finished with one goal. Bufford scored 10:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Great Falls. Daniil Kulikov assisted on the tally. Great Falls also got a goal from Dylan Garton as well. Other players who recorded assists for Great Falls were Jake Bystrak, who had one and Jakub Cmolik, who had two.

Missoula's Cody Janzen stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Missoula incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Hauser rejected 44 shots on goal for Great Falls. Great Falls incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
