Missoula and Yellowstone were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Missoula made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3. Missoula gained the winning advantage on a goal by Donovan Mattfeldt 1:18 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer. Gabe Whiteman-Jones had a great game for Missoula, netting two goals. Whiteman-Jones scored on the power play at 18:50 into the first period to make the score 2-2 and again while 8:10 into the second to make the score 4-2 Missoula. Missoula forced Yellowstone's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 35 shots and forcing 31 saves. Trevor Zangs made 17 stops and JT Blum made 14. Missoula additionally got points from Mattfeldt, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Brett Mathews also scored for Missoula. In addition, Missoula received assists from Anders Nord, who had two and Paigg Maul and Viktor Steenson, who contributed one a piece. Yellowstone kept Missoula's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cody Janzen made 52 saves on 55 shots. Yellowstone was led by Michael Berens, who grabbed two goals. Berens scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Yellowstone. Yellowstone had gained a power play chance when Steenson was whistled for slashing. Orri Haman picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Yellowstone were Tanner Fricke, Andrew Lansing, Sam Gottfredsen, and Cameron Hardiek, who each chipped in one. Missoula totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Yellowstone totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play.
