Pearson leads Picton to shutout victory over Port Hope

Andrew Pearson recorded a shutout against the Port Hope Panthers as the Picton Pirates picked up an 8-0 win.

Picton got the win on the strength of a great game by Evan Greer, who had two goals and two assists. Greer scored the first of his two goals at 12:16 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Picton. Brad Jacklin assisted on the tally. Greer's next tally made the score 3-0 Picton with 2:51 left in the first period. The Pirates had taken the advantage when Port Hope's Josh Fagan got sent off for slashing. Jack Davison picked up the assist.

Picton excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Pirates forced the Panthers goalie Wayne Fryer to work between the pipes, taking 62 shots. Picton's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Picton additionally got points from Davison, who also had one goal and two assists, Levi George, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Ryan Sizer, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Picton also got a goal from Jacob Panetta as well. Other players who recorded assists for Picton were Mitchell Smith, who had three and Brandon Peever and Cole Bolton, who contributed one a piece.

Port Hope's offense operated below it season average. The Panthers average 4.5 goals per game. The Pirates were unable to stop Port Hope from sending pucks towards the net, and the Panthers eventually piled up 51 shots on goal.

Pearson rejected 51 shots on goal for Picton. The Pirates totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For Picton, Tyler Kearns was ejected from the game. Fryer recorded 54 saves for Port Hope. The Panthers ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Port Hope ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brad Heykoop was ejected from the game.
