Greer's hat trick boosts Picton over Amherstview, 5-1Empire Jr. C Sat, Feb 02, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Amherstview Jets could not stop the Picton Pirates' Evan Greer, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-1 win. Greer's first goal came 3:19 into the second period. He then added goals at 5:37 into the second and at 15:59 into the second.Picton was led by goalie Andrew Pearson, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. Pearson managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.79 prior to the game. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 14:19 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Pirates' offense rang up 42 shots on Amherstview's net. Picton also got a goal from Cole Bolton as well. In addition, Picton received assists from will healey, Brandon Peever, Jack Davison, Jeff Kingdon, Geoff Cleminson, Mitchell Smith, and Tyler Kearns, who contributed one a piece. The Jets forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Amherstview surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Jets did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Amherstview averages 4.0 goals per game. The Jets were led by Brandon Gilmour, who scored the team's only goal. Gilmour scored 11:30 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Picton. Liam Vanburen assisted on the tally. Picton totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. The Pirates ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bolton was ejected from the game. Troy Paquette made 37 saves for Amherstview on 42 shots. The Jets registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For Amherstview, Taylor Brown was ejected from the game.
