Amherstview wins tough contest against Napanee, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Amherstview Jets escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Napanee Raiders.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Alex Wilson at 3:13 of the third period.

Amherstview was led by Wilson, who registered one goal.

The Jets kept Napanee's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kyle Copeland made 36 saves on 41 shots.

Amherstview also got points from Brett Yake, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Rhys Webster, who also had one goal and one assist. Ryan Fletcher also scored for Amherstview. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstview were Taylor Brown, who had two and Brandon Gilmour, Mark Christensen, Ryan Bernard, and Cassidy Bruni, who contributed one a piece.

Amherstview was unable to stop the Raiders from sending pucks towards the net, and Napanee eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. The defensemen of the Raiders were also effective in the Jets' zone, and came away with two goals.

Napanee was led by Evan Brown, who racked up one goal and one assist. Brown scored 17:42 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Napanee. Zach Knapp-Hermer provided the assist. Napanee also got a goal from Chris Doyle as well. More assists for Napanee came via Troy Wylie, Donny Emmons, and Adam Shulist, who each chipped in one.

Troy Paquette rejected 40 shots on goal for Amherstview. The Jets totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Amherstview ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bernard was ejected from the game. The Raiders totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. For Napanee, Luke Emmons was ejected from the game.
