Vanburen nets hat trick, leads Amherstview to 9-3 win over NapaneeEmpire Jr. C Sat, Nov 24, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Napanee Raiders could not stop the Amherstview Jets' Liam Vanburen, who tallied a hat trick in a 9-3 win. Vanburen got on the scoresheet 7:13 into the first period. He then added goals at 2:12 into the third and at 5:18 into the third.Amherstview scored early and often, and held a 5-0 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play. The Jets made Napanee's goaltenders to work in net, ripping 46 shots and forcing 37 saves. Mike Brogee made six stops and Kyle Copeland made 31. Amherstview outdid its season average for goals scored. The Jets average 4.4 goals per game. Amherstview's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. Amherstview also got points from Brett Yake, who also finished with two goals and one assist, Brandon Gilmour, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Nic Pascoal, who also had two goals and three assists to lead the team in points. Amherstview also got a goal from Mark Christensen as well. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstview were Dan Chadwick, who had three, Sam Paxton, Rhys Webster, Jake Hulton, Cassidy Bruni, and Adam Alcorn, who each chipped in one, and Jesse Stone and Dustin Kennedy, who contributed two a piece. The Raiders managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Napanee finished below its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Raiders were led by Blade Grigg, who finished with one goal and one assist. Grigg scored 2:38 into the second period to make the score 5-2 Amherstview. Andre Frappier picked up the assist. Luke Emmons also scored for Napanee. In addition, Napanee received assists from Matt Horton and Bud Norris, who each chipped in one. Troy Paquette made 27 saves for the Jets on 30 shots. Amherstview incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Napanee registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
