Huge game by Heykoop boosts Port Hope over Napanee, 6-1

Brad Heykoop had two goals and one assist to lead the Port Hope Panthers to a 6-1 victory over the Napanee Raiders.

Heykoop found the back of the net 6:39 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Port Hope and again while on the power play 1:20 into the third to make the score 4-1 Port Hope.

Napanee was stymied by Port Hope netminder Branson Schell, who stopped 31 shots during the victory. Schell certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.39 entering the contest.

The Panthers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 21 penalty minutes.

Port Hope put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Raiders to score on any of their seven power plays. The Panthers kept Napanee's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kyle Copeland made 45 saves on 51 shots.

Port Hope also got points from Ryan Wilkinson, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Port Hope included Dan Lagrois, who had one and Ryan Hickey, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Port Hope were Chris Jones, who had two, Kyle Sullivan, who had three, and Dalton Lawrence, Logan Arsenault, and Josh Fagan, who contributed one a piece.

Port Hope was unable to stop the Raiders from sending pucks towards the net, and Napanee eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Raiders were led by Blade Grigg, who scored the team's only goal. Grigg scored 2:38 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Matt Horton picked up the assist.

The Panthers registered three goals on six power play opportunities. For Port Hope, chris roy was ejected from the game. Napanee ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. The Raiders ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alex Shotton was ejected from the game.
