Bruni's goals lift Amherstview to 8-1 victory over Deseronto

The Amherstview Jets relied on the scoring touch of Cassidy Bruni, who netted two goals, to beat the Deseronto Storm, 8-1.

Bruni's tallies came on the power play at 16:33 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Amherstview and short handed 4:05 into the second to make the score 3-1 Amherstview.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:38 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Amherstview put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Deseronto to score on any of its four power plays. The Jets' offense rang up 57 shots on the Storm's net. Amherstview surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Jets average 4.5 goals per game.

Amherstview additionally got points from Brett Yake, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Nic Pascoal, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Amherstview included Chandler McDougall, who had two and Brandon Gilmour and Chad McCutcheon, who scored one goal each. More assists for Amherstview came via Liam Vanburen, Mitchell Murphy, Jake Hulton, and Dustin Kennedy, who each chipped in one and Sam Paxton and Brett Elder, who contributed two a piece.

Deseronto racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Storm had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. Amherstview's defense shut down Deseronto's forwards for much of the game, and the Storm got off only 12 shots during the contest.

Deseronto was led by Chris Rogalsky, who scored the team's only goal. Rogalsky scored 44 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Amherstview. Jared Boomhower assisted on the tally.

James DAndrea made 11 saves for the Jets on 12 shots. Amherstview totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 3-for-7 on the power play. For the Jets, Adam Alcorn was ejected from the game. Dan Corrigan rejected 49 shots on goal for the Storm. Team's Riley Muise and Brett Maracle were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
