Amherstview survives Picton comeback, wins 7-6Prince Edward Thu, Nov 08, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Picton Pirates tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Amherstview Jets held on for a 7-6 victory. A goal by Liam Vanburen put Amherstview up 7-5 in the third period, but Picton pulled to within one on Geoff Cleminson's tally 18:02 into the third period. The teams traded the lead four times and neither team could skate away and hide. The Pirates took its last lead at 17:12 in the second on a goal by Jack Davison to make the score 5-4 Picton. The Jets took over the lead for good with a goal by Nic Pascoal 14:27 into the third to make the score 6-5. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:15 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts. The Pirates were unable to stop Amherstview from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jets eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Amherstview bested its season scoring average. The Jets average 4.3 goals per game. Amherstview's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. The Jets were helped by Chad McCutcheon, who had two goals. McCutcheon scored the first of his two goals at 3:46 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Amherstview. Brody Taylor picked up the assist. McCutcheon's next tally made the score 5-5 with 12:17 left in the third period. Jake Hulton provided the assist. Amherstview also got points from Vanburen, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Pascoal, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Amherstview also got a goal from Jesse Stone as well. More assists for Amherstview came via Brandon Gilmour, Dan Chadwick, Rhys Webster, and Cassidy Bruni, who contributed one a piece. Picton forced Amherstview goalie James DAndrea to work between the pipes, taking 56 shots. Picton additionally got points from Coleman Foisy, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Picton were Braeden Walsh, Nolan Van Vlack, Jacob Panetta, Mitchell Smith, and Eric Hayes, who each chipped in one and Ryan Sizer and Brad Jacklin, who contributed two a piece. James DAndrea made 50 saves for the Jets on 56 shots. Amherstview totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. The Jets ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Bernard was ejected from the game. Adam Wood recorded 28 saves for the Pirates. Picton totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play. For the Pirates, Riley Main was ejected from the game.
