Picton outlasts Deseronto, 5-3Deseronto & District CC Fri, Nov 02, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Picton Pirates and the Deseronto Storm was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Picton emerged with a 5-3 win. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Mitchell Smith at 5:54 of the third period. The Pirates got the win with help from a great game by Smith, who had two goals and one assist. Smith scored the first of his two goals at 6:18 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Picton. Smith's next tally made the score 4-3 Picton with 14:06 left in the third period. Picton found itself down a man on Kyle Dekeyser's illegal equipment. The Pirates forced Deseronto goalie Dan Corrigan to work between the pipes, taking 60 shots. Picton also got a goal from seth vanvlack as well. More assists for Picton came via Brandon Peever, Kenny Murduff, and Geoff Cleminson, who contributed one a piece. The Storm kept Picton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Andrew Pearson made 28 saves on 31 shots. Deseronto was led by Corey Prince, who finished with one goal and two assists. Prince scored 18:54 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Jared Boomhower picked up the assist. Deseronto also got points from Boomhower, who also had one goal and one assist. Brett Maracle also scored for Deseronto. Other players who recorded assists for Deseronto were Brett Bateman, who had one. The Pirates incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Corrigan recorded 55 saves for the Storm. Deseronto incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Storm ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brandon Turner was ejected from the game.
