Napanee uses big second period to beat Deseronto, 7-1Strathcona Paper Tue, Oct 16, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Napanee Raiders used a three-goal second period to put away the Deseronto Storm, 7-1. Napanee pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 44 penalty minutes. The Raiders were led by Bud Norris, who tallied one goal and one assist. Norris scored 15:52 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Napanee. Jayden Adams assisted on the tally. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:24 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Napanee put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Deseronto to score on any of its eight power plays. The Raiders kept the Storm's goalie busy throughout the game, and Dan Corrigan made 34 saves on 41 shots. Napanee outdid its season average for goals scored. The Raiders average 4.6 goals per game. Napanee additionally got points from Luke Emmons, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points, Zach Knapp-Hermer, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Evan Brown, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Napanee also got a goal from Ryan Thistlethwaite as well. Other players who recorded assists for Napanee were Andre Frappier, Colin Childerhose, Joel Ferland, Alex Shotton, and Alex Kwok, who each chipped in one. Deseronto forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and three majors for 37 minutes in penalty time. The Storm surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. Deseronto was led by Brett Maracle, who scored the team's only goal. Maracle scored 8:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Deseronto. Nick ferguson provided the assist. Kyle Copeland made 16 saves for Napanee on 17 shots. The Raiders registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. For Napanee, Emmons, Adams, James McKinney, and Josh St.Peter were ejected from the contest. Team's Riley Muise, ferguson, Alex McConnell, and Maracle were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
