Amherstview takes care of Deseronto early, wins 9-2Deseronto & District CC Fri, Oct 05, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Amherstview Jets jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Deseronto Storm, 9-2. Liam Vanburen had one goal and two assists to lead Amherstview. Vanburen scored 6:30 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Amherstview. Brandon Gilmour provided the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:22 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts. The Jets forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. Amherstview surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Jets forced Deseronto's netminders to work between the pipes, ripping 46 shots and forcing 37 saves. Dan Corrigan made 30 stops and Cody Dafoe made seven. Amherstview put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Storm to score on any of their five power plays. The Jets outdid their season average for goals scored. Amherstview has scored at the pace of 4.1 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of the Jets were also effective in Deseronto's zone, and came away with four goals. Amherstview additionally got points from Brett Yake, who also had one goal and three assists, Gilmour, who also tallied two goals and three assists, Brett Elder, who also registered one goal and two assists, Cassidy Bruni, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Dustin Kennedy, who also had one goal and one assist. Jesse Stone also scored for Amherstview. More assists for Amherstview came via Sam Paxton, who had two and Ryan Fletcher, Chad McCutcheon, and Adam Alcorn, who each chipped in one. The the Storm penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 25.0 minutes per game Deseronto had been spending in the box. The Storm were led by Brandon Turner, who tallied one goal. Turner scored 17:43 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Amherstview. Carson Nelles assisted on the tally. Deseronto also got a goal from Brett Maracle as well. In addition, Deseronto received assists from colby wilson, who had one. Troy Paquette made 23 saves for Amherstview on 25 shots. The Jets registered one goal on 10 power play opportunities. For Amherstview, Ryan Bernard, Rhys Webster, and Kennedy were ejected from the contest. Deseronto ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Maracle was ejected from the game.
