Picton survives Deseronto comeback, wins 4-2Prince Edward Thu, Sep 27, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Deseronto Storm tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Picton Pirates held on for a 4-2 victory. Picton made the score 4-1 on a goal by Ryan Sizer at 12:22 in the third period, and Deseronto got as close as 4-2 when Bobby Breadman scored 12:48 into the third period. The Pirates pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 16 penalty minutes. Picton forced the Storm goalie Dan Corrigan to work between the pipes, taking 50 shots. The Pirates were helped by Jeremiah Doherty, who tallied one goal. Doherty scored 1:20 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Picton. Nolan Van Vlack provided the assist. Picton also got points from Sizer, who also tallied two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Jack Davison also scored for Picton. Other players who recorded assists for Picton were Braeden Walsh, Brandon Peever, Mitchell Smith, and Brian Bunnett, who contributed one a piece. Deseronto did not rack up many penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Storm ended up below their season average of 34.0 penalty minutes per game. Deseronto was helped by Cody Stapley, who grabbed one goal. Stapley scored short handed 14:20 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A head contact call on Shanye Winner put the Storm on the penalty kill. In addition, Deseronto received assists from Brett Maracle, who had one. Adam Wood rejected 28 shots on goal for Picton. The Pirates registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Corrigan recorded 46 saves for Deseronto. The Storm registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Deseronto, Winner was ejected from the game.
