Kemptville vanquishes Ottawa in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

North Grenville Municipal 1    Sun, Mar 10, 2013

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kemptville 73s defeated the Ottawa Senators in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for 50 attempts between the teams.

Jaret Smith had a great game for Kemptville, netting two goals. Smith's tallies came short handed at 4:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kemptville and 13:20 into the third to make the score 3-2 Kemptville.

The 73s stifled Ottawa's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Kemptville's offense rang up 35 shots on the Senators' net.

Jesse Blais also scored for Kemptville. More assists for Kemptville came via Jacob Smith, Quinn Wichers, Mason Nowak, Junau St Germain, and Matt Tugnutt, who each chipped in one.

Ottawa put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the 73s to score on any of their six power plays.

The Senators were helped by Kyle Leduc, who had one goal. Leduc scored 10:15 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Trevor Packard picked up the assist. Ottawa also got a goal from Justin Charbonneau as well. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Alex Carlson, Geoffrey Lawson, Marc Shanks, and Michael Evelyn, who contributed one a piece.
