The Ottawa Senators survived a determined comeback attempt by the Cumberland Grads on the way to a 7-5 win. Ottawa made the score 7-2 on a goal by Michael Evelyn at 30 seconds in the third period, and Cumberland got as close as 7-5 when Connor Macleod scored 7:51 into the third period. The Senators got the win behind a great game by Joey Champigny, who had two goals and one assist. Champigny scored the first of his two goals at 19:59 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Ottawa. Justin Charbonneau picked up the assist. Champigny's next tally made the score 6-1 Ottawa with 2:59 left in the second period. Charbonneau provided the assist. The Ottawa penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The Senators had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. Ottawa forced the Grads' goaltenders to work all game long, racking up 37 shots and forcing 30 saves. Devan Tremblay made 20 stops and Reilly Turner made 10. The Senators outdid their season average for goals scored. Ottawa has scored at the pace of 3.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Ottawa additionally got points from Ryan Collins, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Charbonneau, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Chris King, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Evelyn, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Thierry Gibeault also scored for Ottawa. More assists for Ottawa came via Eric Clitsome, Eric Witzel, and Ben Robillard, who each chipped in one and Greg Jansz and Luc Deschamps, who contributed two a piece. Cumberland also got points from Colin Kruse, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Matthew Morin, who also registered two goals and one assist. Cumberland also got a goal from David Bennett as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Mark Golberg, who had two and Andrew DeBrincat and Travis Douglas, who contributed three a piece. Charlie Millen rejected 21 shots on goal for the Senators. Ottawa registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. For the Senators, Witzel was ejected from the game. Cumberland totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. The Grads ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Justin Lafleur was ejected from the game.
