Carleton Place blows out Hawkesbury, 5-2

The Hawkesbury Hawks had trouble finding ways to stop the Carleton Place Canadians, which beat Hawks, 5-2.

In the losing effort, Hawkesbury was led by Roman Ammirato, who finished with two goals. Ammirato scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:33 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place. The Hawks earned a power play opportunity when Luke Martin was put in the box for interference. Francis Landers provided the assist. Ammirato's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Carleton Place with 16:12 left in the third period. Hawkesbury had gained a power play chance when Evan Peterson was whistled for cross checking. Travis Meyer assisted on the tally.

Carleton Place was sparked by Alex Frere, who tallied one goal. Frere scored 8:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place. Stephen Bayliss picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:26 into the second period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with seven game misconducts.

The Canadians were often in penalty trouble, totaling 12 minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. Carleton Place had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Canadians forced the Hawks goalie Carmine Guerriero to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Carleton Place also had goals scored by Luke Kasteel, who had two and Lucas Gonu and Anthony McVeigh, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Kevin Dufour, who had two and Devin Campbell, Tyson Stewart, Brock Edwards, and Kelly Summers, who each chipped in one.

Hawkesbury forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The Hawks surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game.

In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Yanik Laliberte, who had one.

Carleton Place's Brendan Oneill stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Canadians registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Carleton Place, Nic Erb and Stewart were ejected from the contest. Guerriero rejected 36 shots on goal for Hawkesbury. The Hawks registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Team's Mathieu Galipeau and Justin Villeneuve were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
