Cumberland's comeback falls short, Pembroke wins 5-3

The Pembroke Lumber Kings came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Cumberland Grads, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Pembroke led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Lumber Kings' Ben Dalpe's scored on the power play at 18:29 in the second period to put Pembroke up 4-1.

Dalpe had two goals to lead the Lumber Kings to victory.

Pembroke forced Cumberland's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 38 shots and forcing 33 saves. Reilly Turner made 33 stops and Devan Tremblay made zero. The Lumber Kings took advantage of the Grads' penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities.

Pembroke also got points from Stephen Hrehoriak, who also registered one goal and one assist and Cody Trowell, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Timmy Moore also scored for Pembroke. Other players who recorded assists for Pembroke were Carl Greco, who had two and Charlie Connell, Jordan Boucher-Gould, Emilio Audi, Jordan Larson, and Owen McDade, who contributed one a piece.

Cumberland kept Pembroke's goalie busy throughout the game, and Darren Smith made 34 saves on 37 shots.

The Grads were helped by Matt Allan, who finished with one goal. Allan scored on the power play 12:41 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Pembroke. Cumberland had gotten the advantage when the Lumber Kings' Mike Milito was sent off for boarding. David Bennett assisted on the tally. Cumberland additionally got points from Bennett, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Bobby Williams, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Travis Douglas, Matthew Morin, Nick Martin, and Mark Golberg, who each chipped in one.

Pembroke incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Grads incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
