Howe leads Smiths Falls to shutout victory over Kanata

Jimmy Howe made 32 saves to complete the shutout and led the Smiths Falls Bears to a 3-0 win against the Kanata Stallions.

Smiths Falls was paced by Yannick Crete, who had one goal. Crete scored 1:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. Jeffrey Carroll provided the assist.

The Bears excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Smiths Falls' defensive play was more effective than usual against Kanata. The Bears average 2.9 goals allowed per game. Smiths Falls kept the Stallions' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Lane made 30 saves on 33 shots.

Smiths Falls also got a goal from Nic Marchand as well. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Chris Maniccia, Blaine Byron, Connor McLaren, Michael Buonincontri, and Tyler Akeson, who contributed one a piece.

Kanata was held below its usual level of production. The Stallions average 3.2 goals per game. Kanata's offense rang up 32 shots on the Bears' net.

Smiths Falls totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Bears ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Eardley was ejected from the game. The Stallions ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Kanata, Doug Harvey was ejected from the game.
