Smiths Falls takes care of Cumberland early, wins 10-0Navan Memorial Centre Sun, Feb 24, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cumberland Grads fell behind early, and the Smiths Falls Bears kept piling on the points on the way to a 10-0 victory. Patrick Martin frustrated Cumberland's offense all game, and stopped 35 shots en route to a shutout. Martin managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.0 prior to the game. Smiths Falls got the win on the strength of a great game by Blaine Byron, who had one goal and two assists. Byron scored 6:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. Michael Buonincontri assisted on the tally. The Bears forced Grads' netminders to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots and forcing 34 saves. Devan Tremblay made 18 stops and Reilly Turner made 16. Smiths Falls' defensive play was more effective than usual against the Grads. The Bears gives up 2.9 goals on average per game. Smiths Falls found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Bears average 3.8 goals per game. Cumberland did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Grads put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game.
