Carleton Place uses shootout to best Kanata, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Carleton Place Canadians defeated the Kanata Stallions in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams.

Carleton Place's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Kanata power plays. The Canadians' offense rang up 40 shots on Kanata's net.

Carleton Place was helped by Lucas Gonu, who tallied one goal. Gonu scored 17:31 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Carleton Place. Evan Peterson provided the assist. Carleton Place also got a goal from Luke Kasteel as well. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Kevin Dufour, Garrett Moore, and Brock Edwards, who each chipped in one.

The Stallions were helped by Brandon Petrie, who tallied one goal. Petrie scored 18:00 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Joe Breslin picked up the assist. Alex Stothart also scored for Kanata. More assists for Kanata came via Reid Murphy, C Blakely, and Fabian Walsh, who contributed one a piece.

The Canadians' Brendan Oneill stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Carleton Place incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Brandon Lane rejected 37 shots on goal for Kanata. The Stallions incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
