Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kemptville 73s defeated the Cumberland Grads in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.Kemptville overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The 73s fell behind 3-0 after a goal by Cumberland's Colin Kruse at 9:02 in the first period. Kemptville tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Mason Nowak at 13:30 in the third period. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:51 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The 73s forced the Grads goalie Reilly Turner to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Kemptville outdid its season average for goals scored. The 73s have scored at the pace of 2.4 goals per game during the current campaign. Kemptville was helped by Shane Hiley, who registered one goal. Hiley scored 7:52 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Cumberland. Geordie Moss assisted on the tally. Kemptville additionally got points from Cody Hendsbee, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cole Allard also scored for Kemptville. Other players who recorded assists for Kemptville were Matt Martin, Brandon Seatter, Jesse Blais, Matt Tugnutt, Hayden Hanson, and Jaret Smith, who contributed one a piece. The 73s were unable to stop Cumberland from sending pucks towards the net, and the Grads eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Cumberland was led by Mark Golberg, who tallied one goal and one assist. Golberg scored 5:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cumberland. Cumberland also got a goal from Bobby Williams as well. More assists for Cumberland came via Riley Hennigar, who had one and Justin Pelock and Nick Martin, who contributed two a piece. Billy Cooper recorded 38 saves for Kemptville. The 73s totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For Kemptville, Stephen Cooney was ejected from the game. The Grads' Turner stopped 35 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Cumberland totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Grads ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Andrew DeBrincat was ejected from the game.
