Nepean penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of KemptvilleNepean Sportsplex Rink 1 Wed, Feb 20, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kemptville 73s failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Nepean Raiders shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2. Nepean excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Raiders' offense rang up 40 shots on Kemptville's net. Nepean was led by Kenneth Neil, who had two goals and one assist. Neil scored the first of his two goals at 9:17 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Nepean. Cory Durocher picked up the assist. Neil's next tally made the score 5-2 Nepean with 5:01 left in the third period. A roughing penalty on Cody Hendsbee had put the Raiders on the power play. Durocher provided the assist. Tanner Williams also scored for Nepean. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Mitchell Herlihey, who had two and Vincent Llorca, Wyatt Coghill, Philippe Drouin, and Michael Vered, who contributed one a piece. The 73s were helped by Jesse Blais, who racked up two goals. Blais scored the first of his two goals at 8:26 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Nepean. Brandon Seatter assisted on the tally. Blais' next tally made the score 4-2 Nepean with 8:23 left in the third period. C Quinn picked up the assist. More assists for Kemptville came via Nicholas Legault, who had one. Nepean's Matt Zawadzki stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Raiders incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Jacob Tugnutt made 35 saves for Kemptville on 40 shots. The 73s incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
