Kanata beats Ottawa 3-2 after comeback scare

The Ottawa Senators tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Kanata Stallions would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Fabian Walsh put Kanata up 3-0 in the second period, but Ottawa pulled to within one on Eric Witzel's tally 18:48 into the third period.

The Stallions were helped by Connor Cobbold, who grabbed one goal. Cobbold scored 17:24 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Kanata. Doug Harvey assisted on the tally. Kanata also got points from Walsh, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Kanata also got a goal from Joe Breslin as well. In addition, Kanata received assists from Brandon Petrie, who had two and Derian Plouffe and Braedan Moffatt, who each chipped in one.

The Senators' offense rang up 31 shots on Kanata's net.

Ottawa was helped by Derek Brown, who registered one goal. Brown scored 6:17 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Kanata. Witzel provided the assist. Ottawa additionally got points from Witzel, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Ottawa came via Ryan Collins and Ben Robillard, who contributed one a piece.

Brandon Lane made 29 saves for the Stallions on 31 shots. Kanata totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-1 on the power play. Team's Nic LaBurn and Petrie were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Charlie Millen took the loss and made six saves before being replaced by Alexandre Savard-Belanger who made 20 saves. The Senators totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play. For Ottawa, Paul Landry and Chad Millett were ejected from the contest.
