Smiths Falls rides Martin to victory over Brockville, 3-1

Patrick Martin stood on his head and made 32 saves to lead the Smiths Falls Bears to a 3-1 victory over the Brockville Braves.

Brockville's power play was ineffective against Smiths Falls' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Bears were paced by Dylan Mascarin, who registered one goal. Mascarin scored 4:35 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Smiths Falls. Nic Marchand picked up the assist.

Smiths Falls stifled the Braves' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Smiths Falls also got points from Marchand, who also had one goal and one assist and Jeffrey Carroll, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Blaine Byron and Tyler Akeson, who each chipped in one.

Brockville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Bears to score on any of their five power plays. The Braves were held below their usual level of production. Brockville puts an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. The Braves forced Smiths Falls goalie Martin to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Brockville was led by Ben Blasko, who scored the team's only goal. Blasko scored 18:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brockville. Chris Roll provided the assist.

The Bears incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Andrew Pikul rejected 20 shots on goal for the Braves. Brockville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
