McLaren nets hat trick, leads Smiths Falls to 6-1 win over Kemptville

A hat trick by Connor McLaren was the highlight in Bears' 6-1 win against the Kemptville 73s.

McLaren got on the scoresheet 14:02 into the first period. He then added goals at 16:55 into the second and at 51 seconds into the third.

The Smiths Falls Bears' penalty kill excelled, as Smiths Falls gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Bears racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 17 minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. Smiths Falls surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The Bears forced Kemptville goalie Jacob Tugnutt to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. Smiths Falls bested its season scoring average. The Bears average 3.8 goals per game. Team could not crack the 73s' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Smiths Falls also got points from Daniele Disipio, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Michael Buonincontri, who also registered one goal and one assist. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Nic Marchand as well. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Jeffrey Carroll, who had three and Jesse Lussier, Chris Maniccia, Blaine Byron, Yannick Crete, Stefano Momesso, and Peter Soligo, who contributed one a piece.

Kemptville was often in penalty trouble, totaling 17 minors and three majors for 49 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 25.0 minutes per game the 73s had been spending in the box.

Matt Tugnutt also scored for Kemptville. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Matt Martin and Antonio Roumeliotis, who each chipped in one.

Patrick Martin rejected 21 shots on goal for Smiths Falls. The Bears ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Eardley was ejected from the game. Kemptville's Tugnutt stopped 41 shots out of the 47 that he faced. Team's Ryan Patulli and Stephen Cooney were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
