Hawkesbury vanquishes Carleton Place in shootout, 1-0 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Hawkesbury Hawks defeated the Carleton Place Canadians in a shootout 1-0 (3-2 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams. Carleton Place got shootout goals from Garrett Moore and Alex Globke. Hawkesbury's other shootout goals were scored by Travis Meyer and Roman Ammirato.

The Hawks were boosted by Carmine Guerriero, who turned in a shutout with 51 saves. Guerriero managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.72 prior to the game.

Hawkesbury put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Canadians to score on any of their four power plays. The Hawks was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Hawkesbury averages 3.0 goals allowed per game. The Hawks forced Carleton Place goalie Justin Laforest to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

The Canadians' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Hawkesbury power plays. Carleton Place's offense operated below it season average. The Canadians put an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game. Hawkesbury was unable to stop Carleton Place from sending pucks towards the net, and the Canadians eventually piled up 51 shots on goal.

The Hawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Carleton Place's Laforest stopped 39 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The Canadians incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
