Cumberland's comeback falls short, Kanata wins 5-4

The Kanata Stallions, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Kanata and clinched a 5-4 victory.

The Stallions led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Kanata's Nic LaBurn's scored at 1:41 in the second period to put the Stallions up 3-0.

Kanata was sparked by Brandon Petrie, who tallied one goal and one assist. Petrie scored 15:09 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Kanata. Derian Plouffe picked up the assist.

The Stallions kept the Cumberland Grads' goalie busy throughout the game, and Reilly Turner made 32 saves on 37 shots.

Kanata additionally got points from Plouffe, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Fabian Walsh, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Joe Breslin also scored for Kanata. In addition, Kanata received assists from Kevin Groulx, who had two and Cole Hutchinson, Devin Fullum, Doug Harvey, and Braedan Moffatt, who contributed one a piece.

Cumberland excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Kanata was unable to stop the Grads from sending pucks towards the net, and Cumberland eventually piled up 44 shots on goal.

The Grads were helped by Justin Pelock, who racked up one goal. Pelock scored 17:27 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Kanata. Mark Golberg assisted on the tally. Cumberland also got a goal from Andrew DeBrincat as well. More assists for Cumberland came via Travis Douglas, David Higgs, and Riley Hennigar, who each chipped in two.

Gunner Rivers made 40 saves for the Stallions on 44 shots. Kanata incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Cumberland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Grads ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nick Martin was ejected from the game.
