Carleton Place squeaks by Pembroke, 4-2

The Carleton Place Canadians gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Pembroke Lumber Kings.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Evan Peterson secured the win for Carleton Place with a goal in the third period.

Luke Martin had two goals to lead the Canadians to victory. Martin found the back of the net short handed 7:47 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 19:28 into the third to make the score 4-2 Carleton Place.

Carleton Place stifled Pembroke's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Canadians kept the Lumber Kings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Darren Smith made 32 saves on 36 shots.

Carleton Place also got points from Lucas Gonu, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Peterson, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Carleton Place came via Luke Kasteel, Garrett Moore, Christian Weidauer, and Stephen Bayliss, who each chipped in one.

Pembroke put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Carleton Place to score on any of its three power plays.

The Lumber Kings were helped by Jordan Boucher-Gould, who registered one goal. Boucher-Gould scored 2:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pembroke. Smith provided the assist. Stephen Hrehoriak also scored for Pembroke. Other players who recorded assists for Pembroke were Ben Dalpe and Jordan Larson, who contributed one a piece.

Brendan Oneill rejected 28 shots on goal for the Canadians. Carleton Place incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Pembroke incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
