Smiths Falls squeaks by Pembroke, 6-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Smiths Falls Bears escaped with a 6-4 victory over the Pembroke Lumber Kings.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Jeffrey Carroll's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Smiths Falls was paced by Carroll, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Carroll scored on the power play 14:49 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Smiths Falls. The Bears had gained a power play chance when Sam Gleason was whistled for roughing. Blaine Byron assisted on the tally.

Smiths Falls kept Pembroke's goalie busy throughout the game, and Andy Munroe made 28 saves on 34 shots. The Bears bested their season scoring average. Smiths Falls has scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Smiths Falls also got points from Chris Maniccia, who also had one goal and one assist and Karson McCartney, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jesse Lussier also scored for Smiths Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Cameron Romoff, Adam Abu-Ali, Ryan Eardley, Connor McLaren, and Tyler Akeson, who contributed one a piece.

The Lumber Kings forced the Bears goalie Patrick Martin to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Pembroke was helped by Owen McDade, who racked up one goal. McDade scored 13:04 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cody Trowell picked up the assist. Pembroke also got a goal from Charlie Connell as well. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Jordan Boucher-Gould and Ryan Erickson, who each chipped in one and Ben Dalpe and Jordan Larson, who contributed two a piece.

Martin rejected 27 shots on goal for Smiths Falls. The Bears totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. For Smiths Falls, Chris MacMillan was ejected from the game. The Lumber Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
