Pembroke vanquishes Cornwall in shootout, 6-5 (2-1 SO)Ed Lumley Arena Thu, Jan 31, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Pembroke Lumber Kings defeated the Cornwall Colts in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Cornwall got a shootout goal from Pietro Antonelli. Pembroke's other shootout goal was scored by Jordan Boucher-Gould.The Lumber Kings saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Pembroke made the score 4-1 on a goal by Owen McDade at 13:07 in the second period. The Colts evened things up at 5-5 on a goal by Stephen Hrehoriak at 19:05 in the third period. The Lumber Kings were led by Hrehoriak, who tallied one goal. Pembroke put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cornwall to score on any of its five power plays. The Lumber Kings surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Pembroke has scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign. Pembroke additionally got points from McDade, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Carl Greco also scored for Pembroke. More assists for Pembroke came via Sam Gleason, Derek Diaz, Boucher-Gould, Emilio Audi, Ben Dalpe, Patrice Wren, and Keegan Harper, who contributed one a piece. The Lumber Kings were unable to stop the Colts from sending pucks towards the net, and Cornwall eventually piled up 67 shots on goal. The Colts' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Cornwall was helped by Anthony Sanniti, who had two goals. Sanniti scored the first of his two goals at 15:04 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Pembroke. Jake Martin assisted on the tally. Sanniti's next tally made the score 5-4 Cornwall with 3:32 left in the third period. Khalid Alli picked up the assist. Cornwall also got points from Michael Pontarelli, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Martin, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cornwall also got a goal from Antonelli as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Carl Belizario, Lawson MacDonald, Marly Quince, and Billy Ulrick, who each chipped in one. Darren Smith rejected 62 shots on goal for Pembroke. The Lumber Kings incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Colts took out Jordan Piccolino after he had made 11 saves and installed James Edwardson in goal, where he finished with five saves and the sol. Cornwall incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
