Brockville uses early goal to top Hawkesbury, 2-1

Erik Brown scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Brockville Braves held off the challenges of the Hawkesbury Hawks in a tough 2-1 win.

Brown provided Brockville with the game-winning tally when he scored 14:09 into the the first period. Taylor Henry picked up the assist.

The Braves' Andrew Pikul was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 33 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Pikul will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.76.

Hawkesbury's power play was ineffective against Brockville's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Braves were helped by Joey House, who tallied one goal. House scored short handed 14:35 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Brockville. Brockville found itself down a man on Hayden Hulton's hooking.

The Hawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Braves to score on any of their four power plays. Hawkesbury did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Hawks put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. Hawkesbury's offense rang up 34 shots on Brockville's net.

The Hawks were led by Roman Ammirato, who scored the team's only goal. Ammirato scored on the power play 10:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Brockville. Hawkesbury earned a power play opportunity when Henry was put in the box for tripping. William Plamondon provided the assist.

The Braves incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Carmine Guerriero rejected 25 shots on goal for the Hawks. Hawkesbury incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Hawks, Mathieu Galipeau was ejected from the game.
