Cumberland squeaks by Kemptville, 5-3Navan Memorial Centre Sun, Jan 27, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Cumberland Grads and the Kemptville 73s was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Cumberland emerged with a 5-3 win. The Grads gained the winning advantage on a goal by Matt Allan 3:02 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Mark Golberg and Allan provided the spark for Cumberland, combining for three goals and one assist. Golberg registered two goals and one assist and Allan also added one goal. The Grads stifled Kemptville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 73s were unable to stop Cumberland from sending pucks towards the net, and the Grads eventually piled up 52 shots on goal. Cumberland surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Grads average 2.9 goals per game. Cumberland additionally got points from Sean Naish, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Connor Currie also scored for Cumberland. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Matthew Morin and Justin Pelock, who contributed one a piece and Andrew DeBrincat, Riley Hennigar, and Nick Martin, who each chipped in two. Kemptville forced Cumberland goalie Reilly Turner to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The 73s found themselves short handed often, totaling 21 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays. Kemptville was helped by Jesse Blais, who grabbed two goals. Blais scored the first of his two goals short handed at 15:57 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Kemptville. The 73s played down a man on Matt Martin's head contact. Brandon Seatter assisted on the tally. Blais' next tally short handed made the score 3-2 Kemptville with 7:44 left in the second period. Antonio Roumeliotis provided the assist. Kemptville also got points from Seatter, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Kemptville came via Jacob Smith, Ben St Marseille, Alex Row, and Nicholas Legault, who contributed one a piece. Turner rejected 28 shots on goal for the Grads. Cumberland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Jacob Tugnutt recorded 47 saves for Kemptville. The 73s registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. For Kemptville, Martin was ejected from the game.
