Cornwall vanquishes Hawkesbury in shootout, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cornwall Colts defeated the Hawkesbury Hawks in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Hawkesbury's shootout goal was scored by Roman Ammirato. In addition to the clincher, Cornwall got a shootout goal from Michael Pontarelli.

The Colts overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Cornwall fell behind 2-0 after a goal by the Hawks' Ammirato at 10:58 in the first period. The Colts tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Tristen Elie at 17:51 in the third period.

Cornwall was helped by Pontarelli, who grabbed two goals. Pontarelli scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:20 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hawkesbury. Marly Quince provided the assist. Pontarelli's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 11:05 left in the second period. The Colts had taken the advantage when Hawkesbury's Ammirato got sent off for cross checking. Carl Belizario picked up the assist. Cornwall additionally got points from Quince, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Jake Martin, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Anthony Sanniti, Billy Ulrick, Khalid Alli, and Mitch Zion, who each chipped in one.

Hawkesbury also got points from Ammirato, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Brett Varrin, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Hawkesbury were Mathieu Galipeau, Carl Faucher, and Holden Anderson, who contributed one a piece.

Jordan Piccolino made 22 saves for Cornwall on 26 shots. The Colts incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Hawks took out Nicholas Newport after he had made 10 saves and installed Carmine Guerriero in goal, where he finished with 10 saves and the sol. Hawkesbury incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
