Cumberland uses shootout to best Ottawa, 3-2 (2-0 SO)Navan Memorial Centre Fri, Jan 25, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cumberland Grads defeated the Ottawa Senators in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO). The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, Cumberland got a shootout goal from Andrew DeBrincat.The Grads came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Cumberland fell behind 2-1 after a short handed goal by Ottawa's Michael Evelyn at 52 seconds in the third period. The Grads knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Justin Pelock at 15:07 in the third period. Cumberland stifled the Senators' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Grads' offense rang up 32 shots on Ottawa's net. Bobby Williams also scored for Cumberland. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Matt Allan, Colin Kruse, Kevin Giroux, and Matthew Morin, who contributed one a piece. The Senators' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Cumberland power plays. Ottawa forced Cumberland goalie Reilly Turner to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Ottawa also got a goal from Greg Jansz as well. More assists for Ottawa came via Ryan Collins, Eric Clitsome, and Luc Deschamps, who each chipped in one. Reilly Turner made 32 saves for the Grads on 34 shots. Cumberland incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Alexandre Savard-Belanger recorded 29 saves for the Senators. Ottawa incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
