Huge game by Pontarelli boosts Cornwall over Gloucester, 8-2Ed Lumley Arena Thu, Jan 24, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cornwall Colts' Michael Pontarelli had a big offensive game, scoring four goals and contributing one assist in his team's 8-2 win over the Gloucester Rangers. Pontarelli got on the scoresheet 6:52 into the first period. He then added goals at 16:50 into the first, at 5:08 into the second, and at 14:04 into the second.Cornwall made Rangers' goalies to work between the pipes, racking up 50 shots and forcing 42 saves. Dylan BrindAmour made 19 stops and Doug Johnston made 23. The Colts outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Cornwall averages 3.8 goals per contest. Cornwall also got points from Mitch Zion, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Cornwall also had goals scored by Grant Cooper, who had one and Tanner Spink, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Pierre Ouellette, who had two, Carl Belizario, Anthony Sanniti, Pietro Antonelli, Marly Quince, and Jake Martin, who each chipped in one, and Andrew Ming and Billy Ulrick, who contributed three a piece. Gloucester's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Cornwall power plays. The Colts were unable to stop the Rangers from sending pucks towards the net, and Gloucester eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. The Rangers were led by Matt Rosebrook, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Rosebrook scored on the power play 9:10 into the third period to make the score 7-1 Cornwall. Gloucester had gotten the advantage when Cornwall's Brandon Howes was sent off for holding stick. Andrew Rossy provided the assist. Stevie Ray Adams also scored for Gloucester. In addition, Gloucester received assists from Colton Keuhl and Shane Topf, who each chipped in one. James Edwardson made 31 saves for the Colts on 33 shots. Cornwall incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Rangers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
